Short-Term Student and Teachers
During the year 2006, FOC organized a total of 14 short-term programs. These programs consisted of 9 English teaching or teacher training programs, 3 Chinese language study /cultural exchange programs, one literacy program and one Sports English training program. In addition to the assistance these teams provide to Chinese educational institutions, these programs also provide a means by which some participants are able to assess for themselves whether they could successfully adapt to life in China in the future.
Sichuan Province
English Language Training Program (4th Annual), Chengdu University of Science and Technology , Chengdu, Sichuan In co-operation with the Chengdu University of Science and Technology, FOC arranged for a team of fifteen English teachers from the UK to come for three weeks in July to deliver an English language course for students at the University.
Henan Province
In 2006, FOC Henan successfully organized and ran
- A one-week Kids English Camp in July sponsored by Henan Experimental High School Foreign Languages Training Center, Cornerstone Training Department, held at Jigongshan, a mountain resort near Xinyang in southern Henan (25 grade school children attended the camp, with staff of about 15 persons)
- A three-week conversational English program at Zhengzhou University in July, conducted by 6 teachers from the US and Hong Kong with 10 students attending.
- A three-day football training camp for children at Sino-American Non-Profit Cooperative Services Children's Home in Xinmi, Henan, during the October holiday week, conducted by 15 teenage footballers from a football training school in Trondheim, Norway.
- A two-day radiology training program in May, hosted by the Henan Tumor Hospital (Zhengzhou, Henan), for several dozen radiologists from Henan Province, conducted by a Canadian radiologist.
Shaanxi Province
In 2006, FOC Shaanxi successfully organized, ran and completed
- a two week English training program at Xianyang Teachers College, training around 135 students in oral English and British and Canadian culture.
- a two-week English training program at Northwest A&F University in Yangling, training over 100 students and university teachers in oral English and American culture.
- a one-week cultural exchange and English teaching program at Ningshan High School.
- two short-term Chinese language programs for 20 American young people at Shaanxi Normal University.
- a four-week cultural exchange and English teaching program in Xi'an for 7 young people from America.
- a four-week cultural exchange program in Xi'an for 10 young people from Sydney, Australia.
FOC Shaanxi also introduced short-term lecturers from the US, UK and Australia in the following specialized subjects
- Agronomy (2 weeks, Northwest A&F University)
- Plant Pathology (1 week, Northwest A&F University)
- Environmental Management (1 week, Northwest A&F University)
- Radiation Therapy (3 days, First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University)
- Internet Finance (1 day, Northwest University).
Qinghai Province
Jian Zha Summer English Teaching Program This project offered a three-week training program to 25 selected high school students using visiting foreign teachers from overseas.
English Summer Camp Project This project offered an English language training program to more than 90 students at Number 3 Middle School in Adai, Hua Long County. Six foreign teachers from overseas participated in this program, including one teacher with a PhD degree in English As A Second Language (ESL). The school was very supportive and the program was very well received. As continued support to this project, we have also made several visits to the school, bringing foreign teachers for additional follow-up.
Veterinarianary assitance One couple were involved in providing veterinary assitance in Jianzha County. They provided expertise in the area of animal husbandry.
Yunnan Province
A FOC sponsored medical consultant assisted TC/G Nordica design and implement a project to raise awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS within the local artists' community. The goal of the project was to stimulate this community to share responsibility for raising awareness about HIV/AIDS within the broader community. The project consisted of an orientation for local artists, an art exhibition that attracted more than 2000 people and a series of lectures for the general public.
