Short Term

During the year 2005, FOC organized a total of 18 short-term programs. These programs consisted of 12 English teaching or teacher training programs, 2 Chinese language study programs, and one Sports English training program. In addition to the assistance these teams provide to Chinese educational institutions, these programs also provide a means by which some participants are able to assess for themselves whether they could successfully adapt to life in China in the future.

Sichuan Province

English Language Training Program, Chengdu University of Science and Technology , Chengdu, Sichuan.

In co-operation with the Chengdu University of Science and Technology, FOC arranged for a team of fifteen English teachers from the UK to come for three weeks in July to deliver an English language course for students at the University.

Henan Province

Summer English Program at Zhengzhou Electric Power College, Zhengzhou, Henan.

In July 2005, a team of ten FOC volunteers teachers from the US and Norway taught conversational English for three weeks at Zhengzhou Electric Power College. Forty students, arranged in small classes ranging from elementary school students to college administrators, participated in the program.

Summer English-Football Program at Zhengzhou No. 47 Middle School, Zhengzhou, Henan.

In July 2005, a team of twelve football players from the UK and Norway conducted two weeks of lessons in football skills and in conversational English for middle school students at Zhengzhou No. 47 Middle School. The international football players also played half a dozen friendly football matches with local football clubs and teams, including the Henan Province Under-17 Boys Football Team. The entire program was organized and led by 3 FOC football trainers in cooperation with the International Department of Zhengzhou No. 47 Middle School.

High School English Teacher Training Program in Lingbao (灵宝市), Henan.

In July 2005, an FOC-Henan team of five teacher-trainers conducted an intensive one-week English teacher training course for high school English teachers in Lingbao City. Approximately 60 high school teachers participated in the training.

AIDS Awareness Seminars

In April 2005, a team of 5 medical doctors (from Australia, the US, the UK, and China) was formed by FOC-Henan to conduct one-day AIDS Awareness seminars in Kaifeng and in Zhoukou. Three of the medical professionals had extensive experience with setting up AIDS prevention projects in other parts of the world. The Kaifeng training took place in cooperation with China Love Town (Kaifeng) and the Zhoukou training took place in cooperation with Fuyin Hospital (Zhoukou). A total of 65 students attended these one-day seminars.

Shaanxi Province

In 2005, FOC Shaanxi successfully organised, ran and completed:

a four-week cultural exchange program for 10 young people from Sydney, Australia.
three short-term Chinese language programs at Shaanxi Normal University.
a two week English training program in Sanyuan County in conjunction with the Sanyuan County Educational Commission, training 90 English teachers in oral English and teaching methodology.
a three week English training program at Northwest A&F University in Yangling, training over 100 students and university teachers in oral English and American, British and Filipino culture.
a one week cultural exchange and English teaching program at Ningshan High School.
one week cultural exchange and English teaching program at Sanyuan Dongjiao High School.

FOC Shaanxi also introduced short-term lecturers from the US, UK and Switzerland in the following specialized subjects:

IELTS English teaching (6 weeks, Shaanxi Normal University)
Cryogenics (2 weeks, Northwest olytechnic University)
Software Engineering (1 week, Northwest Polytechnic University)
Financial Analysis (1 day each at Chang’an University, Northwest A&F University, Shaanxi Normal University).
Pesticide Regulation in the EU (2 days, Northwest A&F University).
Educational Management in the USA (1 day each at Shaanxi Educational College, Xi’an International Studies University, Shaanxi Normal University).
Renewable Energy Sources (1 day each at Northwest Polytechnic University, Shaanxi Normal University).

A number of FOC associates attended and contributed to the First International Workshop on Foreign Languages Teaching and Research (首届英语教学国际研讨会) at Northwest Polytechnic University. FOC introduced one of the three keynote speakers.

Qinghai Provinc

English Camp

Ten teachers from Canada and Norway in Jianzha, teaching 30 students for three weeks in July.

Eight teachers in HuaLong, teaching 4 classes of 30 students for three weeks in July.

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

English Camp, Xinjiang Medical College, Urumqi

In co-operation with the Xinjiang Medical College FOC arranged for a team of 6 English teachers from the US to teach English for 3 weeks in July.

Continuing Education Program, Yili Teachers College, Yili City

In co-operation with Yili Teachers College, FOC arranged for a team of 3 English teachers to teach English for 3 weeks in July.
